WHO WE ARE
The Halston Hotel is owned and operated by Simon & Dominique Harrison and Robin & Joanne Graham. Four local individuals who are committed to investing in the city and elevating Carlisle’s status as one of the top Northern cities to visit and live in. With the support of the local community they have been able successfully transform our once derelict building to the stunning venue it is today. Dom, a lover of design and all things interior, has led on the style and interior design of the building. Those little touches of fresh flowers and tiny details are thanks to her. Si, who is also in the construction trade, can regularly be seen onsite behind the scenes tinkering away and coming up with the next big development. Robin, an avid traveller and lover of wine, has brought in influences from afar and ensured we have the best wine list in town. Joanne brings fresh ideas and a sense of fun to the building keeping us current and at the top of our game. Alongside our owners is team of hospitality pros who keep the day to day going, the wine flowing, the cocktails shaking, food baking and event making. We’re always interested in speaking with individuals who have a fervor for the industry. If you think you would fit into our team nicely, check out our careers page to see what’s on offer or send an email with CV and covering letter telling us why your right for us to manager@thehalston.com.

OUR HISTORY
Our building was previously Bartons Yard (which is where the café bar gets its name from) and home to William Barton and his business partner Robert Tweeddale’s horse harness and coach manufacturing business. In the early 1900s, construction company Laings won the contract to build the post office. It carved the fluted columns and intricate design of the building’s neoclassical facade with stone from Blaxter quarries in Northumberland. Impressive inside and out, there was a horseshoe-shaped public counter on the ground floor made from the finest mahogany. The Warwick Road post office served the people of Carlisle for many years until it was closed in 2008. The Halston opened in 2014 with 16 apartments and Bartons Yard. Over the next year the events spaces were transformed and we began hosting a variety of events, wedding and meetings. In 2016 we added an additional 6 apartments located in our townhouses, a separate annex. 2017 saw the opening of our flagship bar and restaurant Penny Blue which has proceeded to go from strength to strength. It wasn’t all plain sailing however… In 2011 when Burge Halston purchased the building, the original plan was for a property development project. When the parties interested in the building backed out the team behind Burge Halston were left with a conundrum. After many a discussions the Harrisons and the Grahams changed their vision towards attempting to bring something new and exciting to Carlisle. Plans were drawn up and The Halston was born. Pulling from their collective experience from relevant industries and thanks to the support of the local community they were able to take The Halston to where it is today, a multiple award winning venue and social hub.
OUR FUTURE
We have many exciting plans in the pipeline to extend what’s on offer at The Halston. Watch this space… (or sign up to our mailing list to be the first to know more)
